Gymnasium Thomaeum

Thomaeum School in Kempen, Germany, sees itself as a modern school that meets the requirements of the 21st century. This includes high quality education and also the personal development/individual support of our pupils is a central aim. To achieve this, the school uses cooperative forms of learning, flipped classroom and concepts such as the revolving door model.

Furthermore, as a STEM school, Thomaeum School participates in the German Mathematics Olympiad, "Jugend forscht" and various environmental protection projects. As a digital school, lessons are enriched with various digital methods and there is also an emphasis on media education.

Additionally, as a European school, the school offers a lot o we aim to develop our pupils into capable citizens through Europe Day, projects on EU policy and trips to a variety of places (e.g.  Strasbourg, Spain, France, Poland, China etc.). Our aim is for our pupils to become active citizens of Europe.

The students participating in Camino Europa 24 are all from Year 10 (15-16 years old). They are interested both in the physical and the European/cultural aspect of the project. With the European elections taking place this year, a lot of them will be first-time voters which makes them even more interested in the topic. The possibility to share their thoughts and experience the incredible adventure of walking the Way of St. James with other teenagers from Europe is a combination that they perceive as „a once in a lifetime” opportunity. The students and we as a whole school cannot wait for the project to start.
